Doctor Who Series 7 Poster
My teaser poster for the 2012 series 7 of the BBC’s Doctor Who. Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams) will leave their roles in the fifth episode of the series, so I chose to use one of the Doctor’s catchphrases from a previous series to hint at the departure of Amy Pond.
A Twitter Concept
This might already exist and if it does then please let me know. BUT I was struck about tweaks to Twitter that would perhaps work well – that people may actually appreciate.
It would be cool to curate the content of our tweets a little more closely. The easiest way to explain it would be a love-child between G+ circles and Pinterest boards. We all tweet about a wide variety of things – day to day bits & more niche interests. Sometimes we follow a friend who’s daily tweets about their day are of interest to us – but who might also tweet about golfing results – wasted tweets that we skim over as they are of no interest to us.
Similarly we may follow someone who tweets about a particular interest of ours – a sports journalist for example, who gives us up to date information on our team, but who’s tweets about their personal life we don’t care for. It’s a familiar problem – especially as very few people tweet about a single subject, Twitter is about having a personality.
So why not allow for tweets to be categorised? You could create your own categories and select what type of tweet…Continue Reading
Costa Cruises Spoof Ad
This is a spoof ad that I created for Costa Cruises. A humorous positive spin on what was (and still is) a disaster for them.
Motorola Concept Ads
For part of my University Course I created these minimalist posters for Motorola. The brief asked for Motorola to be positioned as a brand that cares about it’s customers and has them in mind with the design of it’s technology. These designs fall somewhere between a scamp and a final polished design.
MD:AD
I have taken a lot of my poster designs from the second half of 2011 and created an online magazine collection with a small piece written about each creation. I made these to help refine my skills with magazine and print layouts.
The full collection can be found at http://mikiedaniel.wordpress.com/md-art-direction/
Feel Good Drinks
Part of a YCN competition brief that I did for part of my University course. The brief asked for a campaign that had creative ways to promote the brand and convey the message of “Fruit not Sugar”.
Part of the campaign included this poster which was designed to be fun and creative. The tongue-in-cheek approach to positioning sugar as a social taboo is what makes the poster memorable.
I used the logo’s writing to form part of my strapline “Fruity. Tasty. Feel Good, Naturally”
SaTaLite Computing
I was asked to create the logo/branding for SaTaLite Computing, a computing organisation based in Newark-on-Trent.
The brief was fairly open with the only requirements being that it was black and red and fairly abstract looking.
You can visit SaTaLite’s site at satalitecomputing.co.uk
Drive Poster
I created this poster for the 2011 film Drive. It instantly became one of my favourite films, it is a beautifully shot piece. The Art Direction of the whole film is source of inspiration for me.
I chose give this poster a similar feel to film itself. I wanted the poster to look as if it could be used as an official print to promote the film in a cinema or elsewhere.
More of my film posters can be found here.
Black Mirror Poster Series
I created this series of three minimalist posters for Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror television series. A fantastic yet dark piece of television.
The first poster I used the pig, as that seemed to be the part that everyone was talking about the most from the ‘National Anthem’ episode. Crude, but effective.
The ’15 million merits’ poster was a slightly trickier one. In the end I settled on the shard of glass that is used by Bing. I was struck by the fact he became a sell out, and had a special case for his glass shard. It was depressing really.
Finally the third instalment that sees a near future where you are able to “Re -Do” memories, either in your head, or on a screen. A frankly scary glimpse into what could be. I chose to use images based on the storage and playback of those memories.
Footballsphere.co.uk
As of March 2012 I set up and manage the Facebook presence of footballsphere.co.uk, a football news & feature website. The account is run in tandem with the site’s Twitter account to ensure maximum reach and engagement with Footballsphere’s audience. The project is still very much in it’s infancy & the the aim of the Facebook presence is to generate additional views for the site as well as expand and engage with a growing audience.
